ordered this despite the comments about the autofocus. The lens itself is somewhat plasticized, but no more so than a budget Nikon lens. Photo quality is acceptable (but not excitable), especially at this price point. However, the autofocus is really abysmal. It almost gets there, in decent lighting, but fails, dismically, in low light. Try autofocusing in anything under 30 lux and you'll be rewarded with constant hunting. This causes you to miss shots that might have been "The One". Of course you can use manual focus, but that's not why we buy "auto focus" lenses. I have a Yongnuo 50mm f1.8 prime lens that doesn't suffer from this issue. Yongnuo, if you make a really good 50mm, why does the 35mm suffer so much. If you're happy to focus manually, you'll find that this is a very respectable lens, for the price. If you want to be able to autofocus at a reasonable speed (or at all), this may not be the lens for you!

Camera lenses can be expensive, especially when they combine both their ability to be fast in terms of aperture and being a prime, but this one goes against the grain as it's fairly inexpensive for what it is. The lens comes from Yongnuo, a Chinese company that makes camera accessories. ====== Construction ====== The lens is a stubby lens, a similar size to a Nikon 50mm with only one focus ring and an auto/manual switch. There's no manual aperture ring, so the build is pretty light. I wouldn't say it's as heavy as my other lenses, but it appears to be made of similar materials. The lens arrived in a box with plastic covers statically attached to each glass end so it was protected all the way to my door which is a nice touch. ====== I use it ====== I use this lens on my D800 and have had great results so far. An F2.0 aperture can certainly help bring depth of field to those slightly wider shots. I've used the auto and manual focus features and found them to be responsive and accurate. I've found the sharpness to be good - it's not as good as my Nikkon 50mm, but it's close enough for the desired effect. That's not to say the image isn't sharp, just not as razor sharp as I've seen with some other lenses. Some sharpening in post will surely bring it back. ====== Conclusion ====== This is a great lens for those who don't have the money to splash out on a Nikon branded lens, but the results are still good. I would recommend this to any photographer and will buy from Yongnuo again.

For a lens that's so cheap, I'm genuinely surprised at how good it is. I think it's better than Nikon's own lenses. I use it for light colors mostly, and fur, two things you need a good lens to capture with minimal difficulty. It works amazingly in all lighting conditions, the autofocus is flawless and the image quality when paired with my D7000 is unfathomable.

After using this lens for about 2 months I can say that I am very satisfied with this product. For the price you pay, you get a good lens with decent materials, but you also pay a lower price compared to other high-end brands. Overall this is a quality lens for the price. I would defiantly recommend this product.

This is a great lens for a great price. So reviews show it takes too long to focus. I've experienced that, but that's only in some situations. I bought this lens for videos rather than stills and I usually use manual focus. I use a dinosaur, Nikon D750 and it works well with the lens

The quality is almost the same as an original Nikon lens. Autofocus works, although it takes a while and makes more noise. The price is ideal. And if your camera is from the 3000 or 5000 series, this is the best option because a Nikon lens does not allow you to focus automatically, only manually. You can autofocus with the YongNuo lens. When using manual focus, the rim is rubber, which has better grip and is easier to move than the Nikon lens.

state that I am not a professional and the rating depends on how I use the lens. I only bought the lens to take macro shots, powered by extension tubes and/or additional lenses, without having to look for artistic qualities, just to take photos in the technical field.

It's impossible to beat this lens for the price. Images are sharp at all aperture settings. The autofocus is accurate, if not as fast as more expensive lenses. The low aperture values create a really nice bokeh. Build quality is lighter than similar lenses from more expensive brands, but it's quite adequate. It just works great and is a perfect way to get the benefits of a low f-number, fixed focal length lens at a reasonable price.

I'm a hairdresser, but an amateur photographer. I was very happy with this lens. For the price it delivers great quality that I would definitely recommend.
Exceeded my expectations!!!!

So I read the reviews and realized that the autofocus seemed very "noisy", that's the only negative thing I can say. But it really doesn't bother me. This lens is like a Nikon without the price tag. I bought it for my Nikon D7200. It ran smoothly, works perfectly and the f-number is nice. Helped me achieve what I was trying to do. I basically always have this on my camera.
