82mm Magnetic Black Soft Diffusion 1/8 Filter Special CineBloom Effect - Nano-Xcel Series
SKU: SKU.1842
This K&F black diffusion filter is a great kit. It reduces contrast, makes blacks slightly grayer, and provides a soft bloom around highlights. This 1/8 filter is the weakest, but it still makes a noticeable difference to the look of the images you take with it. . I was able to test it side by side with a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter, and the results from each filter are extremely similar to the point where I don't really see a difference in the image, and I certainly couldn't say that the one or the other is better than the other. Both frames are made from aluminum alloy, and I think any aluminum frame can benefit from a little grease, even if it's just grease from the skin of your fingers that you rub on the nets. More expensive filters have brass frames which tend to be much smoother and don't stick. The K&F filter has approximately 1.25" deep machined grooves on each side of the filter, which provides excellent grip for your fingers when screwing/unscrewing the filter. One aspect in which K&F is the clear winner is that the K&F filter housing is far superior to the Tiffen housing; the Tiffen case is a square case in which the filter is loose on a piece of polystyrene, while the K&F case is superbly designed to hold the filter in place very securely thanks to a clever system of rubber grooves which can accommodate different sizes of filters. There is a filter thread at the front so you can stack another 77mm filter on top. Overall I find this to be an excellent quality filter that is roughly on par with the quality of Tiffen filters. It's a useful tool to have in a camera kit and well worth investing in.

For the price that doesn't blow it, it's easy to put on and take off. Ideal for amateur photographers getting more creative.

I haven't used magnetic filters yet. It's really nice to have that. I didn't realize how convenient it would be to not have to screw filters in and out every time I want to change something.
This lens's diffusion effect is easy to spot if you're looking for it, but subtle enough that it doesn't draw attention to itself. I was concerned at first that it might be too much, but I like the results. I didn't notice any color cast either. Very nice filter. Does the job well.

I ordered the 55mm Black Soft Diffusion 1/8 effect filter to use with my Nikon D5600. I'm a beginner, but I enjoy the effects of this filter, especially in daylight. The effect is subtle but effective. There's a nice bloom and minimal color change. No loss in image quality was observed. Thread on the filter makes it easier to screw onto the lens of my camera. Well packaged. Useful filter to have a wide variety of settings at hand.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos to attach as an example, but this filter is great for the value, I think I'll take more

Similar to the expensive Pro-Mist filters, this gives videos and photos a more cinematic sheen by adding a slight haze to the image. The 1/8 is lighter than the 1/4 filter size and always has the 82mm thread size as you can get step up rings to fit the filter. The filter gives the lights a fog-like effect without affecting the sharpness and also smoothes skin tones. Overall nice filter that fits and protects the camera and is best available than using a cheap UV filter. The glass does not adhere to oil or fingerprints, so you don't have to wipe it all the time.

I had my doubts before buying this black mist 82mm filter, because I really do mostly landscape and I thought they were only used in portrait or "Street". I wasn't sure what I could get out of it and I was pleasantly surprised.
A filter that creates a special atmosphere, adding a kind of haze around points of light. In the photos you can see the effect it generates, I find it very interesting and I think that in many situations it can give a special touch to the photos.
The filter is of the threaded type, comes in its plastic box, which also serves for different sizes of filters, from 43mm to 82mm. The metal border and the crystal filter.
Right now only ideas come to my head to investigate landscape applications, it seems to me a very interesting option with which I am enjoying a lot.
I leave you some photos and video so you can understand what effect is achieved using this filter.

So I think a lot of people involved in video products are very familiar with the Tiffen Black Pro Mist filters. This is K&F's version of this filter. I'll elaborate on what I think about the filter, but you can judge for yourself in one of the pictures in this review, where I show you the same image; the first without filter then with the filter.
One of the results you get with such a filter is the blooming of the highlights. This filter does that pretty well. Comparing the bloom to the Tiffen line, I'd say it's between Tiffen's 1/2 and 1/4 strength, being closer to 1/4. The highlight fall from IMO was strong but natural. Remember that the light in the image fills the frame, so you're seeing this particular effect of this filter at its most extreme. You won't see as much flowering in a more natural environment. Take a look at the camera highlights. For me, the K&F filter had a big impact on highlight roll-off, which was very smooth.
The other effect you get with a black fog filter is slightly reduced contrast and slightly softening of the shadows. For me, I thought this filter did that pretty well. If you look at the texture on the camera handle in the image, you can see how that texture is just softened up. Imagine shooting a person and you can imagine how much you could smooth the skin.
It also comes in a nice little screw together plastic case. Inside the case is this little rubber stopper that keeps the filter from sliding around in the case. I love the attention to detail here.
Compared to the Tiffen version of this lens at the size I got, which was 82mm, the K&F Black Mist is about $40 cheaper. I think you get good value for your money here. Can't wait to try this filter on some upcoming shoots.
I think K&F is moving into higher end filters and if this filter is an example of the kind of quality it can produce I can't wait to see what filter they release next.
