Great for BW Portraits
So two things - how good is the filter - and when do you use diffusion. The filter build quality is actually really nice. The K-Series only has 18 layers of coating vs the 28 layers on the nicer series. But at $50 for two filters, I'm not complaining. It's a clean image without flair or distortion (used individually). Now, the use of diffusion is mostly for special effects. 95% of the time I'd rather add in image softening in post production (reduce clarity, for instance) vs having my digital file soft. However, if you are doing video work, volume, film, or special effects, this is a great tool.My favorite use is for Old Hollywood style BW portraits. Use a 1/4 diffusion, convert to BW, add contrast and Grain - and you've got a sexy image with some serious retro vibes. I love it!
