The edge of the filter still has a little wavy pattern, so you can rotate it better, so you don't slip off so easily. The filter makes black areas in the image a bit lighter, so there's a slightly softer effect. However, the effect on the variant I have (1/4) is very subtle. If you take a picture on the tripod with and without a filter, you can easily see the effect. I have attached a test image to this review, where you can compare the effect with the normal image. The filter is also advertised for portrait photography. I tried that too, but got the same result, very subtle. I did not attach the portrait photo for data protection reasons. Otherwise the filter is very clear, so there is no color cast etc. in the picture. Aside from the slightly lightened black, the rest of the image is identical, which is fine so far. The filter also has an internal thread, so you can screw on another filter if you need it. Whether you need the filter or not is an application-specific decision. I personally think that the effect of the filter, at least the 1/4 filter, can be easily achieved in post-processing.
