all in one!
I was pretty late to jump on the ND filter trend because I'm an old photographer and still shoot film 90% of the time. In film, we learned how to make camera adjustments to achieve the same thing you would with these filters. Well, almost the same... I am shocked at how much easier it is to work with this variable ND filter in hard light and shoot long exposures!
One question I had was, "Does this work with film or pretty much just for digital?" and I'm happy to say that it does work for film, but I think its greatest strength is in digital photography.
This filter is one of the highest quality filters I've ever seen. It turns silky smooth, but has enough friction that it stays exactly where you set it and doesn't slip when you make another adjustment. I couldn't believe my eyes, but it also works as a mild polarizing filter. I was able to shoot in very bright and harsh sunlight and have an exposure of almost 2 minutes with the darkest setting, so I could see right through the reflection of the water. I have never been able to do that before!
I also love the little orange nub they call the "putter" on this filter. It just makes adjusting so much easier. I'm totally sold on using ND filters now, and since this one is variably adjustable, it's the only one I'll ever need! very happy with it!
