It worked right out of the box for basic vunctions but the instructions that came with it are a bit vague.

The “K&F Concept Nano-K Series Black-Mist 1/4 Filter 72mm” comes in a plastic box that you first have to figure out how to open. Even when you've mastered it, it's still cumbersome. There are also 3 microfiber cleaning cloths, individually wrapped in sleeves. I chose a diameter of 72 mm in order to be able to use as many of my lenses as possible with it using adapters. The filter has a corrugation several centimeters long on two opposite sides, so that it is particularly easy to grip. As the English name "mist filter" roughly translates to "fog filter", the filter creates an effect or mood like fog, especially with lights. In addition, this filter makes the skin appear a little softer. I'll start with the second point, with the skin: The effect is minimal and should be seen more as a positive side effect. Significant wrinkles/skin imperfections remain visible and only slightly lose their sharpness. It's different with lights. That is also the main purpose. Here the effect is very clear as the pictures show. The filter gives lights a glow or aura. The image with the sharp edges is without the filter and the image with the glow and smooth transitions is with the filter. K&F Concept is really stepping up their filter game and this one is awesome. This review is for the K&F concept 82 mm black diffusion 1/4 effect with variable ND2-ND32 2-in-1 filter. For this filter, K&F stepped up its packaging, utilizing a magnetic lid box and a magnetic leather pouch. The filter itself is stored in a clear plastic bag, which unfortunately uses an adhesive folding closure (just be careful when removing/inserting the lens to not let the band of adhesive touch the filter). Still, the overall package is much nicer than the plastic snap box with foam cutout, but I can't say if it's more practical or "better" as I feel it provides less protection than the hard plastic snap box. Anyways, on to the filter itself.

The filter looks and feels great. It has a solid metal construction with a premium feel to it. The inner stationary ring has two large areas of knurling and the outer movable ring is fully knurled. One section of the outer ring has an orange metal tab sticking out for easy turning. This particular filter has hard stops built into it for the minimum and the maximum. I am unable to appreciate much or any X effect on my 18-35 mm lens (not that the X effect is typically a significant issue at these lower stop levels from 1-5 anyways). I really like the built-in hard stops though because it lets me know when I'm at the minimum and the maximum and I can make more efficient adjustments instead of just blindly rotating well past each end and going all the way around. The variable ND portion works well, but how's the black diffusion? I'll be honest, it's my first time using a black diffusion filter, but the effects were definitely noticeable between having it vs not having it. It provides that soft cinematic feel and tones down the highlights and contrast. I can't believe I've never used one until now.

The K&F Concept 82 mm black diffusion 1/4 effect with variable ND2-ND32 2-in-1 filter provides premium functionality at a budget price point, especially when compared to the bigger brands. At that point, you're paying extra hundreds of dollars for minor gains in optical performance. If you need the absolute best because it's your profession, then just move on and pay the big dollars. But if you're looking to test the waters or need a strong working filter without breaking the bank, then K&F has the glass you need.

I've seen various films that noted the use of diffusers. I really compared a lot of black matte filters. This one is perfect. I get the softening without noticing it. This is really a high quality filter. I am very happy with it.

This is a great product. Easy installation. I love the elegant matte black. This will definitely keep my kids out of my room

The K&F Black-Mist Filter is my first filter that creates an effect. I haven't had any experience with this and to be honest I'm very pleasantly surprised. Of course, this can look completely different for someone who already has experience in this area. The filter is delivered in the folding box familiar from K&F. In addition to a plastic box in which the filter is packed again, there are 3 welded-in microfibre cloths to make the filter and the lens dust-free before assembly. What I personally really like is the coating of the metal ring. Filters are often painted very smoothly and are difficult to tighten. A matt and very non-slip coating was chosen here. The grip is further supported by 2 zones with corrugations and you can tighten the filter very nicely and without any problems. It would be whining at a high level if you now wanted to add a better fitting storage box for the filter. There is nothing wrong with the fit and the smooth running of the thread. Therefore I award 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought it for its minimalism. All matte black and I love it. With my Nikon Ai F lenses it suits luxury

Finally found an ND filter which can be installed inside the Smallrig lightweight matte box 2660.
I did have to remove the holder frame to make it fit. This can be done by carefully pulling appart the frame sides with the lips. In doing so you can op out the filter while keeping the frame intact.
Filter quality seems to be ok and it comes with a very well designed holder with an extraction ribbon which avoids having to touch the surface of the filter when taking it out.
